ABOUT
NOCENSORSHIP.INFO // DIGITAL LIBERTY COALITION
Mission Statement
The Digital Liberty Coalition (’DLC’) is a grass roots community driven coalition of organisations who are standing up for free speech online. Organised in response to the threats to non-stakeholders becoming privy to information relating to the ‘clean feed’ internet censorship operation spearheaded by Senator Conroy, the DLC rallied in capital cities on the 1st of November, 2008.
Aims & Objectives
We believe in the Australian citizens right to freedom of information, freedom of media and freedom of speech. All of which the current government policy potentially threatens.
We do not trust our government with secret lists of what we can and cannot see, we do not trust our government to control what we are allowed to read online, we do not trust our government after they’ve said they will ban far-right political material deemed hate material to limit it to one end of the spectrum and not narrow it down to their preference at the time being.
Without a constitutionally afforded bill of rights we do not trust our government, and nor should any reasonable Australian citizen with respect for themselves, their peers, their children, their family, friends, or country.
The DLC will continue to inform the public and rally against the Great Australian Firewall until the agenda of any form of internet censorship is taken off the table and the globally accepted concept of net neutrality is availed in it’s wake by bringing together smaller groups and introducing them to veteran civil liberty activists introducing them to a cohesive movement for a much larger impact on the public, the government and the media.
National Operations
Nocensorship.info was published by various pre-existing and veteran activists in the cause of freedom of speech and civil rights, utilising access to members of parliament, journalists, academics and student bodies a national rally was held across Australia in all capital cities, marching upon Parliaments in every state before returning to main central business district locales to inform the public.
The protests were an amazing success, shortly afterwards various other anti-censorship groups began talks with the state organisers, it was noted that a central rallying point is essential to having a positive impact on the Australian public and in lobbying the government to recant it’s misguided ideals of a controlled internet feed for Australians.
The Digital Liberty Coalition was formed upon these ideals as an umbrella organisation for various lobbyists with no hands on experience with organising or being active in grass roots campaigns, many smaller groups rallied to the pro-active body for interconnectedness and functionality surpassing any other anti-censorship body in the nation.
It is from this sizeable group of original veteran activists and the many willing volunteers that this movement has been formed, and it is this coalition that has been founded on the indifatiguable works of motivated individuals who want their voices to be heard.
